HomeMaryland Mold Inspection / Remediation Info
There are currently no state licensing requirements for mold inspection and remediation. So, students can complete our training courses and begin work immediately.
The Maryland Mold Remediation Services Act, which passed in May of 2008 has been postponed indefinitely.
Therefore, until the Mold Remediation Services Act is implemented, a mold remediation contractor who only performs "cleaning" type services (such as cleaning ventilation systems or applying chemicals to kill mold), would not be required to hold a MHIC license.
However, if the mold remediation contractor performs structural renovations to a house in the course of a mold remediation project (for example, tearing out and rebuilding walls, repairing drywall, replacing floors, etc.) he or she is required to hold a contractor license (as would be required in almost any state when structural modifications are made to a home).
The ME website does say this:
"For information about finding an accredited microbial remediation course, please visit the Council for Accredited Certification website." However, the ACAC (council) isn't a requirement or anything.
LICENSING POSTPONED: DLLR has postponed the implementation of the Maryland Mold Remediation Services Act indefinitely
The Commission plans to draft and propose regulations in support of the Act.
